Regular cleaning tools cannot capture this fine dust — it simply gets redistributed into the air, only to settle again hours later. What post-renovation cleaning includes
A thorough post-renovation clean involves removing construction debris and protective coverings, vacuuming and wiping every surface including walls and ceilings, cleaning inside all cabinets and drawers, descaling bathroom fixtures, removing paint splatters from floors and glass, cleaning light fixtures and ceiling fans, and a final wet mop to capture residual dust. The process is systematic, working from top to bottom to prevent recontamination.
The importance of proper equipment
Professional post-renovation cleaning requires HEPA-filtered vacuums that trap particles as small as 0.3 microns, microfibre cloths that capture rather than spread dust, and specific cleaning agents for different surfaces. Using the wrong cleaner on a new marble countertop or freshly varnished floor can cause permanent damage that costs thousands to fix. Experience with post-renovation work means knowing which products are safe for which materials.
When to schedule the clean
Wait at least 48 hours after the final coat of paint or varnish has dried before scheduling the clean. This ensures no wet fumes are trapped beneath dust. Schedule the clean at least 3–5 days before move-in to allow any residual dust to settle and be caught in a final touch-up. For larger renovations, a two-stage approach — an initial heavy clean followed by a detail clean closer to move-in — produces the best results.
